As the city prosecutor we function as the legal advisor to all the enforcement officials within the various divisions of a city including code enforcement, police, fire, planning, building and safety, animal control, etc. We review problem properties and can advise creative ways to address the violations existing on site. These creative solutions may involve criminal prosecutions, citations, undercover investigations, receiverships and other legal proceedings. We prepare and file actions against persons responsible for the violations and appear in court as the city prosecutor when staff attempts to correct the problem fails. We appear at all stages of the proceeding from arraignment to trial and the appellate court if necessary. We advise code enforcement and police departments regarding code amendments and additions, as well as policies, that will assist them in their overall goal of protecting their citizens and raising property values throughout their cities. In addition to property maintenance cases, we support our city clients in the regulation of adult use businesses and massage establishments, and we assist with police permit matters and Conditional Use Permit revocations.
